Exploding starfish

Oddest thing. For decorative purposes, I bought a bagfull of sea shells and a single dried out starfish for my new freshwater aquarium (that is home to three small Cichlids).

Over the next few days, I noticed that the very dead starfish had moved over three inches on two occasions.

This morning, the starfish was in many small pieces, and the main body (what was left of it) was stuck in the opposite corner of the tank.

Is it possible that the starfish internals are so intricate as to explode with such force to propel the body all the way across the aquarium?

I would imagine your fish are picking it apart.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

I agree. The thing is dead. It is no doubt rotting in the tank, and more or less came apart.

Remove what you can. Make large partial water changes. Also remove the sea shells, since they contribute toward making the water hard. This is something you don't want in a FW system.
