Hi everyone!

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie and this is a terrific site! I have a 65 gal. reef tank and I'm keeping mostly soft and LPS coral. I'm looking for a frag of Blue Xenia Cespitularia - I love Xenia and the rich blue color of this variety. Please let me know if you have this Xenia for sale.
Thanks!
Laurie

Re: Hi everyone!

Hello and welcome Laurie

We LOVE pics

Where are you located? Cespitularia isn't a very good shipper so finding a good healthy specimen is key in long term success.

When you're looking be sure you're getting "Blue Xenia Cespitularia" and not just an off color of Xenia. It will make a difference. I've seen some "off color" xenia marketed as "Blue Xenia Cespitularia" for $15 /frag but when you put it beside "Blue Xenia Cespitularia" you can see the difference from across the room.

Again welcome to RS.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!
Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Hi everyone!

Hi Big Al,
Nice to meet you! I know you're right and that's why I want to find a true Blue Xenia Cespitularia from someone who has experience shipping these tender xenias. I think this might be a good way to ship these little guys...
fasten the frag to a piece of styrofoam in such a way that the Xenia constantly floats upside down on the surface of the water. This ensures that it doesn't get smooshed or banged around during shipment. Do you think this shipping method would work well?
Again, nice to meet you! I'll post some pics soon.
Cheers,
Laurie

Re: Hi everyone!

Your recommendation on the styrofoam floating the Xenia upside down in shipment is indeed the best way for corals attached to something. I've had several corals shipped that way - a great way to ship things like Xenia and Euphyllia types.

Re: Hi everyone!

Thanks Terry for your opinion on the styrofoam shipping method for Xenia. Sounds, to me, like the best way to ship them too. Thanks for your feedback!

Re: Hi everyone!

As Terry said that is indeed the best way. That's how I have gotten all of my "successful" softies. In fact that's how my "Blues" were shipped last year. Overnight shipping is needed to help ensure success.

I have a friend in Cali who had some if you're in the area let me know and I'll get you in contact with her.

Hi Big Al,

If you have a friend in California who has some Blue Xenia Cespitularia I'm interested. Please put me in touch with her and THANK YOU!
