Re: Just Bought RSM 130D!!!

Definately run both! Read the Red Sea Manual, I don't believe anywhere they say the second pump is a "backup" as a matter of fact, many of us have added more flow to the tank than just the 2 pumps. :-)

Re: Just Bought RSM 130D!!!

Definitely run both pumps, madness for the LFS to say not to. Point one to the water surface for agitation and to break up any surface film, and the other deep into the tank. Dipping your rock in high salinity or freshwater for a minute just forces the hitchhikers to flee the rock, it won't destroy bacteria, i have had no problems by doing so. Dip not a soak, and if you do, no more bristleworms !

Sounds like your LFS are talking nonsense. 25% once a month water change is asking for algae issues if you ask me. Stick to a weekly water change with R/O. If you are going to water change monthly then be sure to check your parameters weekly to be sure everything is fine.

Check on here if you want anything asking, theres so many experienced reefers willing to offer advice, they helped me so much!

Just a question to all. My LFS told me I only need to run 1 of the 2 pumps. They say the 2nd is a back up incase #1 goes out...... What is everyone else doing, running 1 or both???
Come on over to rsm club and see all the beautiful beautiful beautiful RSM tanks and... and don't listen to lfs...

run both pumps, point one up to break surface a bit...

weekly water changes big key 5 gals 10 - 15%

Start a tank thread in the owners club & ask any questions you have, everyone is very very nice & more than willing to help with sound advise.
