New to Reefing

Hi all,
New to this site but loving all the help. I was just reading a forum of posts about live rock. We have had our live rock since the first part of October but the only thing we are seeing is brown algae and feather dusters....is this a bad batch of rock? The rock is fiji rock ordered from liveaquaria. It was pre cured, I believe, and we followed the curing instructions. Did we kill everything off? The water tests as though the cycling is complete. We added a few SPS tonight and we have had the cleanup crew in for a week or wo now (also from liveaquaria and a bit lazy still).
ANY an ALL advice is appreciated. We're loving this hobby.....uh, obsession! We've studied more before starting this than I ever did in nursing school (shhhh, don't tell my patients)!

JHamilton,
First off, welcome to RS. If you start your own thread, you are most likely to get more responses. Most RS members are reading this thread to answer Sarah’s questions. Just thought this might help. As far as your live rock, everything sounds perfectly normal to me. Feather dusters are filter feeders and very good for your system. Just give it more time and keep testing your water.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!
Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: New to Reefing - JHamilton0170

It will take a little while longer to get all the creepy-crawlies to come out and run about on your live rock. It was about 3 months after I moved an established tank that I started seeing reef bugs on my rocks.
Oh, and welcome!
