Saltwater Tank beginner

Oceanic 90 gallon bowed with cannopy and stand with stainless steel/black trim from LFS new for $600.00 brand new. I don't understand about Reef Ready and sump tanks? Because this one DOES NOT have one. Is it necessary for a successful saltwater system(I don't mind the cost).

Thank you,

Teresa

Re: Saltwater Tank beginner

A reef ready tank will be drilled so accomodate plumbing for overflow and return, flow goes down pipes into a sump where you have various filtration equipment; protein skimmer, carbon and/or phosphate reactor, return pump for the main tank. It sounds like that tank has a hang-on back filter maybe? The type of filter system and light system you use will depend on several factors, one of which is what you plan to keep in the tank. If you can post a few more details about the system and your goal for inhabitants, that will help. Also, WELCOME!!

Re: Saltwater Tank beginner

I know this sounds stupid but I want to research what type of fish would be effecient. Yes, it has 2 HOB slots for filters and a large opening in the back of the Oceanic cabinet. I would like to have coral and a few bright colored fish. My terminology is embarrasing. Do you think that is a good deal for the Oceanic bowed front 48x18x28 tank+ canopy and stand (stainless steel/black)
It does not come with a light or glass top, just a heater/thermometer?

Thank You,

Teresa

Re: Saltwater Tank beginner

This might be a good deal, depending upon what you want.

However, I recommend you keep shopping around. You may find something better.

Also I recommend that you get yourself a few good books on state of the are reef systems and study them. This will be invaluable toward your success.

BTW, you will soon discover that the tank is one of the least expensive items. It's very easy to spend a lot more on lighting and filtration.

Research is never, ever stupid. What's stupid is *not* doing research. Kudos to you for this!

Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Re: Saltwater Tank beginner

You could also purchase an overflow kit and sump to run it as saltwater.

Welcome to RS!
A reef ready tank and sump are not required for a successful reef but it does make it a lot easier.
You can even add an external overflow to an undrilled tank and add a sump.
It is a lot easier to deal with if you have the built in overflow and sump but many many people have successful tanks without.
