Greetings

Hello everyone.

I am new to the site and to reefing. I am in the process of starting up a reeftank. I have been building my own stuff whenever I can. And figured it was time to come on in an register and say hello

I have this for stuff so far.

45g tall tank.
2 maxi-jet 1200 powerheads with the flo mod done on both.
Plenum setup with 20lbs argonite special grade reef sand.
All the test kits. Heaters (2).. 40lbs live sand

In the process of picking up a ro/di setup.
In the process of getting a HO ballast seup with 4-lights. 2 10k's an 2 460atc

DiY Hood built but no finish yet.
DiY Stand built but no finish yet

I am currently looking for a DiY protein skimmer plan that would mimick a
CPR BakPak 2 hang on skimmer.. No such luck yet though so if anyone has an ideas or can draw one up..

ummm I plan on having a few Clowns, maybe 1-2 other things..
Corals.. Verts... and once its all running good for a while, several Anemone's

I will prob have a ton of questions for you pro's. I have already read many things. But I know mistakes will be made.

One thing I will say, I know many of you do not agree with plenum setups. That is fine. But this is what I want an what I have built. Please do not attempt to change it. I have seen tanks that run this setup an run great. There are established tanks all over the world that have run the same setup for years an years.

Welcome to RS!
Check out the DIY section for skimmer plans. I don't remember seeing them for that skimmer but there are certainly examples of others you can check out.
You are absolutely correct about many people have plenum systems that run great. Just do your research and I am sure you will be fine.
The one thing I will mention is the lights. That is really not enough light for anemones. They need very strong light such as MH or a really good T5 set-up.

A reef tank is like a race car. The faster you go the harder you crash.

Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Re: Greetings

Welcome and it sounds like you are well on your way to a very nice tank. I agree with lcstorc about the need for better lighting if you want to do anemones. I would at least do 6 t5's and if you can fit it 8 would be even better. Good luck and I'm sure you will find all the answers you are looking for and then some.
