just checkin.

ok im new on this site. but just today iv joined like 5 salt water forums and iv gotten a variety of responses, first off i have a 125 gallon tank its been going for a few months. i have a clown, blue goby, chromis, couple feather dusters, sponges, star fish, blue crabs, brain coral, and 2 little tiny pieces of live rock. it looks pathetic in the tank. so i went out a found a piece of rock out in a pile next to a field, and i boild it and checked for lime. its now in a sperate tank and im checking ph to see if its setting anything off. would it hurt anything if i put it in. b.c its a perfect rock to put in its like 50lbs and has holes and little caves

Re: just checkin.

Welcome to the Sanctuary! This is a judgement call. Land locked rock can contain metal ores and/or contaminants that you may not want in your tank for obvious reasons. What was the result of your lime test?

People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Welcome to RS!
Personally I wouldn't risk it.
It may not be an initial problem but many times I have heard of this type of rock to be more prone to algae growth. Nobody knows why.
Cracker is one of the people so check out his thread.
Amusingly enough I know someone who used cement blocks without problem.

Re: just checkin.

def. agree its a judgement call it could work amazing for you but at the same time it could be a huge crash to the system personally i like to very the type of rocks that i have in my tank(live rock from different locations) i find it easier to do alot of aquascaping with different sizes shapes of rock
