| Tunicate | Newbie from Hawaii (stuck in Ohio) Hello all, My name is Jonathan, and I currently reside in Southern Ohio. Ive just started the saltwater aquarium hobby and loving every minute of it. Being very far from home (Hawaii) has made me miss the beaches and coral reefs of the North Shore, so I thought it would be a cool idea to recreate the ecology of my home, in a small, tiny, 20 gal tank! Im a single parent, and while I fancy coral and invertebraes, my youngest daughter wants "Nemo" and family. So its been fun for both of us. Ive picked up a lot of info from my LPS and this forum, as a guest, so I thought it was time to register and become a member... ...actually, I have a huge problem that I'll be posting on another thread hehe... Aloha! Jonathan |

__________________ Stace Worried about the costs to run a Saltwater tank? Here are some tips on cutting back to keep your bills in the same range as before. Put a timer in the bathroom, the family is now only aloud to take 5 minute showers, baths are out of the question. Tv time is cut to 1 hour a night, we have to make up for all of the lights/pumps/heaters/chillers/etc. running No more lights, duct tape all light switches in the off position. If someone needs light, they can sit by the tank. Sorry bunny, I sacrificed you to help others save money! |

| Tunicate | Re: Newbie from Hawaii (stuck in Ohio) Thank you for the warm welcomes everyone. And yes, it can get boring in Southern Ohio hehe. But its much cheaper to live here than Hawaii. Hmm... cheap enough for me to purchase a saltwater reef tank... lol! I surfed a lot as a kid. Its amazing what you can take for granted. The reef once annoyed me (getting your back torn up by corals is not fun), yet here I am, trying to recreate a piece of home in Ohio. Heres a FTS of my 20 gal. Work in progress and Im taking it as slow as possible. Shot was taken with my phone, so its awful. Ammonia 0 SG 1.022 temp 78 Nitrate 10 Nitrite .25 And thats the hitch-hiking anemone that came with my last LR unnoticed by my LPS. I know I still need more equipment... ![]() |

| Keeper of The List | Re: Newbie from Hawaii (stuck in Ohio) Hi, Frozyn and welcome! I live in Ohio, too, but up on the east side of Cleveland... where the REAL winters are. You think it's cold down there...come on up here! I do agree that you've made quite the switch though! Hawaii to Ohio must be quite a jarring experience. Since you've been around as a guest, you probably can already see what nice people are here, and how helpful they are. Don't be afraid to ask any questions! Good luck with that condy! Do you have another LFS in your area? Maybe another store would take it off your hands. I think they do like to eat fish.
