| Tunicate | Hi everyone! my name is Michele, I live in Pennsylvania. I've been a saltwater addict for about 4 yrs now, but just getting into having my 1st reef! I have a 75 gallon that I've been working on. few questions for you.... I have 2 long tentacle anemones and 2 peppermint shrimp, lately I've noticed that the shrimp have been picking on the one anemone, it pulls itself in to protect itself, but they get right on top of it and start picking at it... why?? is there anything I can do to protect the anemone? and also, I have some mushrooms (forgive me, I'm new and can't tell you what kind) when I bought them they were on a small piece of rock - not sure how many there were, but they are most definately multiplying! yeah!!! can I separate them to relocate them to other areas of the tank? thanks!!! looking forward to getting to know everyone! | Brunt of all Jokes~ | Re: Hi everyone! lol, peppermint shrimps favorite snack? yup anemone. try feeding the shrimp a chunk of prawn to satiate their blood thirsty habits, second best would be something like a plastic tomato basket, mushrooms you can do no harm, even slice them up with a razor blade, Welcome to RS! Steve

| Tunicate | Re: Hi everyone! thanks! how do I get the mushrooms off of the rock, just slice them off? when I bought the rock it had enough to cover it when they were open, now they are literally pushing thru each other to get to the light and hanging off all the edges! they're beautiful and I just want to spread them out and give them some room. I can see that I have so much to learn!!! lol I started about 4 yrs ago with a fish only tank that I bought from someone who was getting out of it, it was a 29 gal tank. then I became so addicted that I moved up to a 75gal. of course this was all while I was a full-time nursing student so to say my tank was neglected would be an understatement - I of course had problems and eventually lost everything in the tank except for one mean maroon clown and one other mean fish, so about 6 months ago I scooped them out and took them to the pet store and began transforming my tank. I then added to my filtration (a canister) and sat and waited not-so-patiently for a couple months until my water tested good! since then I've added 2 percula clowns, 1 lawnmower blenny, 1 green mandarin, 2 peppermint shrimp, 1 carpet and 1 long tentacle anemone (still had the one from before - but it was really looking sad... you should see him now!) and I had various hermit crabs and snails from previously. I got the mushrooms about 2 months ago and I cannot believe how much they have grown!!! will they keep doing that? am I one day gonna have more of these than I want??? right now I want them to keep on spreading. I also added a light to the tank prior to getting the mushrooms. why didn't someone tell me how freaking addictive this hobby is??? I swear I need to work more just so I can support my reef habit! and one thing I did learn early on was to GO SLOW - but WOW is that difficult to do!! oh well, gotta go get ready for work - so that I can buy that brain coral I've been dreaming about! Thanks again! Michele ![]() |
