| Tunicate | Skimmer Hello all, I have been reef keeping for 4 years now, I started with freshwater for about 14years and moved to saltwater and love it. I am having some problems with my skimmer. I just purchased a Octo NW 150 and it is in about 9 to 10 inches of water. The collection cup fills up in about 1 to 2 minutes with a mix of water and foam. I don't know much about skimmers. Do they need to be broke in? How long does it take if so? And how much water should I keep it in? I have the sump under my show tank and there is no more room to raise it. |

| Elegance coral | Re: Skimmer I have the same skimmer, there is an adjustable stand pipe on the side of the skimmer, it's the tube that the water returns to your sump from. Push it down. The higher that tube is the higher the water level will be in your skimmer and cause your cup to fill in seconds, it will run better after it breaks in as well. If you havee any other questions feel free to PM me and I will help you. |

| Tunicate | Re: Skimmer It is not broke in yet, I think I will give it a couple weeks and see if it starts to improve, right now the collection cup fills up with water in about 3 minutes, but my tank has not been skimmed in about two years and I just built the sump about three weeks ago. If it does not improve in a couple weeks than I will be changing something, the micro bubbles are kind of a pain so right now I will only be skimming at night. I will just let it overflow back into the sump for now hopefully once it brakes in it will run normal, I have taken the stand pipe off, maybe I have it in to much water it is in about 11 inches right now. |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Skimmer That's very possible. You might need to put something into your sump to lift the skimmer up a 4" or so. This will lower the water level in the main body and let the foam rise up into the cup.

| Tunicate | Re: Skimmer I raised it again I had to take the sump all apart and set it out from under the main tank. It is working great now, I can't beleave all the nasty stuff that it is collecting. Mico bubbles are still a prob. I have four of the rings on and I also cut out the middle part of a couple carbon filters and that slowed it down but did not stop them. Right now I am only running everything at night. Do you think that the micro bubbles will stop after the break in? |
