| Bryozoan | Greetings from Kamloops They call me John and I have begun to create a 75 gallon reef. I have been researching all over the web and have found some really good ideas and some not so good ones. I'm very inventive and enjoy making things myself so I plan to make all the external hardware myself. I have a plan to use a 12 gallon sump with a working volume of 6 gallons. Not sure if i am going to use glass or acrylic... I'm hoping that my design and plan will be successful. i would like to use the sump for primary filtration with 3 stages. Rock, gravel, then sand... then into a large protein skimmer (reactor?) using counterflow and forced air. Then back to the tank. Also I would like to have an air powered undergravel filter system in the tank itself. This is probably overkill, but I'm a fan of overkill... I believe you can't have too much filtration. I have drawn up a basic plan and have attached it below. I am very interested in hearing what the 'sperts think... Is this a viable system? is there anything i've missed or done wrong. I'm hoping that this will be very quiet and I think it will... Comments? Hope you can read this... had to squash it a lot. |

| Bryozoan | Re: Greetings from Kamloops Thanks all... Just so you don't think I'm a complete idiot, I have done a lot more research and found that my plan is crap. I must have a thick sand bed for the anerobic bacteria and a refugium for plant matter and co2 control. I have redesigned the sump for that purpose. Peace... John |
