New to the Scene

Hi all, I'm actually just getting started on a 90 Gallon Pentagon. I'm not sure if I should call it a reef tank or not, but I will tell you know what will be going in it when I figure all of that out, or I should say when my wife let's me know. One thing I do know that is going in it is a 15 inch. Green Carpet Anemone. It is a custom tank built by Sealife Systems with a ReefMaster Pro 100 refugium and an IS 200 skimmer, all Sealife Systems products. The Anemone is in someone else's tank for now, along with the caulerpa that is going in the refuge. You will here more as it happens, with some pictures of course.

Re: New to the Scene

awesome!!! heres a few pointers that ive learned on the way...

1. NO ANENOME untill your tank has been up for at least 6 months preferably a year. they are EXTREMELY sensitive to water chem. changes.

2. although its always good to let the wife make decisions Dont really on other's information all the time.. do research yourself you thank yourself by skipping some of the problemS that occur to people that dont research, or at least know a little on how to handle them.

good luck, and pictures are everything.

Welcome to RS! I, for one, think it's great to let your wife make decisions.
I guess that's because I'm a wife.

If you want to see a really nice carpet anemone check out Woodstock's reef chronicle. There's some great shots of it in the last few pages, and a feeding video, too.

Re: New to the Scene

Welcome to RS.
You may want to re-evaluate the carpet unless you are going to have a tank just for it. They get quite large and very likely to eat any fish in the tank.
Woodstock has a beautiful carpet and she is currently debating whether she should get rid of the carpet or get rid of her fish since it is not practical to keep both.
I also agree with Carl. Anemones require a very stable tank that is well established. They also need a very high amount of light as well as direct feeding. Carpets are one of the most difficult animals to keep. In fact I tried one once and it lasted about a week in my 2 yr old tank with metal halide lights.
I don't mean to discourage you but want to make sure you know what you are getting into.

Re: New to the Scene

My avatar is Shaggy by the way. He is in a tank at work for now. I appreciate all the excellent advice, Shaggy just might stay where he is at. I can tell you for sure he will not go in the new tank until i think it is ready.
