| Elegance coral | Re: Excited and confused! hey welcome aboard, alots been said allready when i first started i didnt know much either, the one thing to take into consideration is the bigger the tank the easyer it will be to keep params in check,a good starter tank would be a 75 or 120.I started with a 75 and i loved it,now i have a 155 bow 2nd you need to find what corals you like,I have a mix of everyting but its done with dilegent and proper maintnence technichs, then you will find what lighting you need, this is one thing you do not want to skip on,pc's are fine for zoas, shrooms, leathers, some leather need bright light to susstain their colors, with enough vho's or t5's u can grow sps, halides about anything with that being said, when i first started all i wanted to keep is zoas'mushrooms, zania things like that, then i had gotten my first fuzzy stick, then i had to rebuy equipment for a spstank unstead of a softie tank

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Excited and confused! Hi Carl and welcome to RS! As others have said, deciding on what you want to keep and how MANY fish (in inches) you want to have helps to determine the size of the tank. The prices for the tanks themselves is the inexpensive part. The bigger the tank, the bigger the lights, the skimmer, the salt required, etc. Just keep in mind that big IS better but it's also more expensive to maintain (not that much though) and MUCH more expensive to get set up. But having a big tank really opens up the possibilities as to what you can do. I had a closest full of stuff that wasn't right for my ultimate setup but over the past few months, I've actually placed most of it back into service. Making the decision as to what you ultimately want to keep now, WILL save you a lot of money in the long run. And it will also help to ensure your success. ![]()

| Midas Blenny | Re: Excited and confused! Welcome Carl, As you can see from all the responses that have been posted this is the RIGHT place to be if you have questions. I havn't been given any bad advice here yet. As you can also see there is a never ending amount of learning to be done. You are smart to research before you start, I have a husband who wanted to dive right in and who is very impatient. Lucky for us things worked out. I find that as soon as you feel confident with everything something else comes up that you don't know, and so on and so on... The best advice I was given was to get "Saltwater for dummies". It is a very easy read with alot of information. I keep it beside the aqarium to use as reference as well as posting my questions. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Again welcome to RS.
