Howdy,

Glad to be part of what seems like an awesome bunch, unless you've all got me fooled . I'm just starting out with marine - never had salt in water unless sick, been into fresh for 12 years or so, going with a bigger tank since my habits with freshwater told me I would eventually want it. 240g. Long. ordered my lights yesterday, 3 x 250wt MH 14k hamiltons, 4 x 48" t5 actinic. Plans to drill the tank in the next week, top back right corner for a custom overflow - super anxious about this but also hesitant to get a siphon driven dude from what i've heard. Any tank drillin' vets that can provide comfort? Looking forward to soaking up some knowledge.

Cheers,

Blake

Welcome to RS!
It's great that you can start with such a large tank.
The one thing I remember when we drilled our sump and fuge is to keep water running over where you are cutting so it doesn't get too hot. You probably already knew that but that's the extent of my drilling knowledge.

Re: Noob

Thank you much for the warm welcome. Happy to report the tank is drilled without problem, quite nerve racking, drilling and moving it all in one night. Received my lights, skimmer, maxijets, and pump today. Now to build a canopy, sump, and drop some serious dough on live rock - - I found a walt smith figi rock seller on ebay, 2.8lb shipped, anyone have experience with them, sounds delightful and i've heard from at least one source good reviews.

Side note, i'm so happy with the drilling i'm going to setup and drill a 65 gallon to be setup simultaneously. a... am I getting ahead of myself. Thanks again happy to be here.

Re: Noob

Sounds like a good start with the tank and light you've got so far. Oh and we love pics too.

Re: Noob

Here are a few pics. Getting my better camera tomorrow. Please forgive the cleanliness of the tank and house, moved in a week ago . Tank's top priority though! Also attached are pictures of the lights and sump, to be completed. Canopy and lights hopefully done this weekend. Stand to be finished off soon as well (trim and doors). I'm thinking of staining it 'ebony' (basically black) this weekend, I dig the contrast of black stands, but would like some of the grain of that somewhat expensive oak to show through. Excited to have all this stuff arrive today, minus the sea of peanuts!
