refugium

Hi.
Im planning on ditching my canister filter and setting up a refugium. I am limited in space. My tank is a 60G cube. I have 18 to 20 inches in width to work with. I was going to do the 10G tank bit, but I plan on going with the Eshopps reef sump. The size is perfect. Can I use the first area ( the one with the sock in it) as a refugium? Do I need a divider? And if it does work, I plan on eventually upgrading my skimmer. I have a CPR Bakpak. Im not thoroughly impressed with it. Will the skimmer pump also return the water back to the tank, or do I need a separate pump? Also where do check valves go? Any insight would be nice. Thanks.

Re: refugium

your probably going to need a seperate pump for your return pump. I use a ball valve on my drain and a tee with a ball valve on your return isnt a bad idea. then you can control the flow back to your tank. go to melevesreef.com and you will see he does the same on a few of his tanks. He also has some nice setups and you can get ideas from his.
