| Reef Shark | Re: New to...well everything! Nano Tuners has a great website. They have all sorts of different lighting upgrades. As far as corals go, there are many different types that all have different needs. We need to know exactly what you like, to help. ![]() ~Michael

| Reef Shark | Re: New to...well everything! Mushrooms are probably among the easiest corals to keep. They also come in many different shapes and colors. Many people say that the need low lighting. DONT LISTEN!!! Mushrooms can survive under low light, but they will NOT thrive. Most mushrooms like moderate to high lighting. The stock lighting in the aquapods, bio-cubes, etc. will be ok for shrooms. But if you want o see the best growth, and keep other types of corals, you should look into an upgrade. ~Michael

| Reef Shark | Re: New to...well everything! Well, for an 14 gallon you are limited. I dont think that they make any T5 bulbs small enough, and Metal Halides would turn your tank and fish, into seafood stew. ![]() So and upgraded PC fixture is what you want. I will look around for you. ~Micahel

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: New to...well everything! Quote:
Actinic gives deeper light penetration but it's very blue/dark looking. 10K (also called Daylight) gives good brightness but doesn't give the coloration we like to see. So a 50/50 is a compromise of both. Start off buying local if you can. When you factor the cost of shipping into an order of coral (or other live stock) it really pushes the price way up. At least local you get to see what it looks like and what condition it's in before it gets to your tank. ![]()

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!! | Reef Shark | Re: New to...well everything! If you add another bulb, I would go with the 50/50. That gives you the 10K and the actinic. I get all of my coral over the internet. I get most of mine from Liveaquaria.com They have amazing coral, fish, and inverts. Actuall I get ALL of my fish from there. They have great customer service and a gaurantee that just cant be beat. I have also ordered coral from Mrcoral.com. Sonny is the owner and has GREAT corals for great prices. Just remember to go slow. Also, consider that your 14 gallon tank will get small very quickly. You will want more and more coral and you just wont have the room. I just got my 240 gallon tank setup. i dont even have fish in it yet, and I wish that I had a bigger tank. My girlfriend has a 40 gallon tank, now she is looking at a 150. This hobby IS THAT ADDICTING. ~Michael
