New here and new to everything!

I thought I would introduce myself. I am starting my very first reef tank ever. I got an 8g bio cube, about 9.5lbs of live rock and about 9lbs of live sand. I've had it sitting for a while and added my first little bit of fun yesterday. The little button polyps seem to be doing well thus far and has even already opened up a little, and I cannot wait to begin adding more stuff! Anyway, I have some pictures that I am working on uploading and would love any advice and/or suggestions about my tank.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: New here and new to everything!

Update! Camera cable is still no where to be found, but when I find it I will post all the pictures.

Since my last post I have added some mushrooms (several different little ones), a small pulsing Xenia, and a tiny emerald crab.

I know I can't keep the emerald crab in there forever, but he was super cute and is working well as the start to my clean up crew. I already talked to the guy at my LFS and he said that I can bring him back when he gets too big. I am going to add a snail or two and maybe a shrimp or something as well in the next few weeks.

I am hoping I am doing everything right. I waited a week after adding the buttons to add the other things, and am going to the rest of this week before adding my other little snails and what not.

I do have a question though. I am wondering if it would be at all feasible to add a little goby to the tank eventually. I was thinking a fire fish or an orange spot. I also really wanted a harlequin shrimp or two, but I dont know if that would be a good idea in my tank since it is so small. Anyway, I would love to hear what everyone thinks, and hopefully I am doing most things right. If not, let me know and I can fix it!

Re: New here and new to everything!

An 8 gallon is very small and only really small fish, 1, would be appropriate. Something under 2" at adult length.

Welcome to RS! Check out clown gobies. They stay small and are really fun to watch.
