| Tubeworm | New Guy Hey all, pretty new to salt water aquariums. Picked up a 75GAL from a guy moving for 400 bucks. Came with 20 gal sump with a skimmer an UV filter, 400watt MH, 2 55watt 10k and, 2 55 watt actinic and two tube of LED moonlights. About 80lbs of live rock with corraline algea all over it and many snails and hermits and about a 3-4 inch base of live sand and crushed coral. Unfortunately it also came with a moon ?? wrasse that i finally got out of the tank. You all are gonna hate me but I had to fish him out with a piece of shrimp and a tiny fly from my fly fishing collection. I made several attempts to remove him kindly, but after he ate all my newly added snails i had enough. After I set it up and let it settle into its proper levels i added some new life. Added one percula and 2 blue green chromis, there was one in there already so now i have 3. Bought 2 stars and some turbo snails and the other ones that burrow in the substrate with the pipe sticking out?? Well the wrasse at all those. Wrasse went back to LFS and i bought 2 peppermint shrimp another percula (my present one was schooling with the chromis so i bought him a buddy), and a sea urchin. Anyways done babbling now, i am gonna need slots of advice so hopefully you guys dont get all mad at me! |

| Plate Coral | Re: New Guy No one here would get mad at you. You've come to the right place. Welcome to RS It sounds like you got a heck of a deal on that tank and all the goodies. The fly fishing in your aquarium for the Wrasse is not unheard of. It is one of many ways to remove an unwanted fish from a tank. It's not all that bad if you use a barbless hook. As for your tank, how long have you had it set up? It sounds like it was already established when you bought it so I'm guessing you just had a mini cycle moving it, is that right? Sounds like you've got more than enough light for some corals of any type and even clams. Do you have any pictures you'd be willing to share with us of your tank, sump, and other stuff? We love pictures here, they're worth a thousand words you know. Well I guess that about sums up my welcome.Happy reefing!

| Tubeworm | Re: New Guy Yea I had a mini cycle when everything got put back together but its settled down nice and is running smooth now. I upgraded my skimmer to one that doesnt suck, though i lost the UV filtering, not sure its a big deal though. And yea thats the snails they are the nassarius, though sadly there is only one left i think. I have new acrylic being cut for the sump as we speak so that i can get a good design going. I hope to be working on a new hood and light bracket this weekend. I guess it woul dbe a good time to start a log huh! |
