Green Tentacle Anenome

Greetings All!

I figured what better way to introduce myself than to look for help.

My anenome seems to be half digesting its food. I have tried mysis shrimp and krill i wash them first and place toward the mouth. The anenome is very big has stinging tentacles is very sticky and latched on to the same live rock. Recently a tank raised maroon clown about a inch and a half has taken to him keeping him clean and swiming in his tentacles. By the next day ill notice a compact ball of left overs. Is he getting enough to eat? Is this okay? He looks really good. Any suggestions? Thanks Mike

Re: Green Tentacle Anenome

Welcome Mike! Happy to have you aboard! As far as anemones go, as long as they look good, are expanding and staying stuck to the substrate (LR) then things can't be too bad. I'm not sure I know what you are describing "Green Tentacle Anemone", but if it's a bubble tip anemone, lighting is it primary source of food production. Solid food, although necessary, is secondary and you may want to limit feeding solid food to twice per week. All the best!

Re: Green Tentacle Anenome

I should have clarified the big ball coming out is obviously the krill all compacted. Perhaps i am feeding it too much (every couple days) i quess this is over kill and ill chill with the feeding.

Re: Green Tentacle Anenome

Welcome to RS.
The maroon could be harrassing the nem. Clowns sometimes do that. How long have you had the anemone and what kind of lights do you have? How long has the tank been established and what are your levels?
All of these things are very important to anemone health. Posting a pic of what you are talking about can help a lot.

Re: Green Tentacle Anenome

I guess some more data would help.

Its a 29g with a the emporer filter (two big bio wheels) and sea clone protien skimmer. It has about 20 pounds of live rock several pieces with soft corals and polyps, 20 pounds of live sand and the light is 18 watt 50/50 coral spectrum. I realize the light is weak but its in a room with great light all day. Ill eventually change the light but my mushrooms and polyps are doing so well im afraid to change anything. It has been set up for three months now and i have a peppermint shrimp cleaner shrimp, fire fish, maroon clown, striped damsel yellow damsel, and a royal gramma. The damsels i used to cycle but think i will return the yellow one shortly. The levels all look good as far as i can tell. I check them with this stick you put in the water for a second and take out. i dont know how accurate but it says my nitrate is at 20 nitrite safe alkalinity 300 and ph is acceptable. I never have any spikes and keep the temp at 80. Ill try and get some photos shortly. thanks
