| Tunicate | New from GA. Go Dawgs! Hey guys my name is Bruce. I am just getting back from college and I'm ready to start my tanks back up. I currently have a 135, two 55's, and two 29's none of which are up and running. I have had a fish only before in the 135 but my parents made me take it down while I was off at school. I would like to set up one of the 55's and start a reef tank. I am new to reef tanks and was wondering if you guys could help me out piecing one together. Aside from the tank all I have is a sea life systems model 60 wet/dry filter. The tank is not drilled and has the hang on overflow box. I also have a pump with it but I'm not sure how big it is. I know the lighting has to do with what type of corals I would want to get. I haven't really decided on that yet. I do not have a canopy. I'm obviously not going to start with the harder lps or sps corals but once my tank is established I don't want to not be able to get something because of my lighting. I was wondering if you could help me in choosing a protein skimmer, power heads, and any other advice in getting started. |

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: New from GA. Go Dawgs! Welcome to RS! You're doing VERY good by asking and researching AHEAD of time! Kudos to you for that. On another note we take points AWAY from "Dawg" fans! ![]() Welcome to the REEF! Your best bet is to give it some serious thought on what you want the tank to look like LONG term and slowly work towards that goal. Filtration and lights are very BIG key items so plan them into your ultimate system. If you're really wanting to go "All Out" you may want to look into some LED (Solaris) lights through one of our Sponsors. These lights give a FULL spectrum so you can potentially have ANY coral (clams etc) and not have to worry about chillers (MH's produce LOTS of heat) and have lower electrical demans. Keep researching and don't hesitate to ask questions ![]() Again welcome to the REEF and . . . . . . . . Go VOLS!!! ![]()

| Acropora | Re: New from GA. Go Dawgs! Welcome Bruce! RS is a great place! I probably have the same wetdry ( collecting dust) . Lets see if one of those 29's will make a decent sump. Is the overflow a sealife also? single drain? plug in the pump to see if it works. We can start from there. One thing though I gotta agree with Big al! Points lost for Dawg fans! GO GATORS! |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: New from GA. Go Dawgs! Welcome to RS! The 29 should make a great sump. That is what I am using. In fact I have one as my sump and another as my fuge. I would recommend an ASM G series skimmer if you are going to have a sump. Aqua C Remora Pro if you need a HOB skimmer. Take your time and do lots of research before doing anything. It is a lot easier to wait and do it right than to fix it later.
