| Serpent Star | New from SC Hi, I have a 65 gallon reef and fish tank. I have been keeping this since Christmas of 2006. I was looking for "Nemo" and "Dori" for my two young daughters. I was told by the dealer that in order to keep "Dori" I needed at least a 55 gallon tank. Well it started there and about 2 to 5 grand later (not sure just how much.) If you have been doing this long you know the story. I really enjoy it and have had ups and downs like everyone else. Recently (New Years day) my tank started leaking so I had to break everything down and strip all the silicon out and replace it. In retrospect that was a good thing, I redesigned my tank and made some additions. My water quality is perfect and I lost only a couple of corals. My BTA even survived. Thank God I had a quarintine tank to put the fish and corals in. I had gotten complacent with maintenance (water changes, supplements, etc.) and this experience has reinvigorated my love for this hobby. Look forward to meeting some of you and sharing joys and heartaches in the future. Last edited by heels92 : 01-24-2008 at 07:59 PM. Reason: grammer |

| Serpent Star | Re: New from SC Hey, great news here. I have met Frank here in SC thru the forum and we eventually got together here today. He came by and took a look at my aquarium and thought things looked great, especially the clam I had. He noticed a notch in the clam and thought that the coral beauty I had recently added (Friday 1/25/08) had nipped at it. Well I got worried about this, mainly bc "How am I going to get the coral beauty out of here without tearing down my tank?" The LFS owner had warned me that he/she might nip at my corals. Well I just had an idea. Look at the pics I had taken of the clam last week, before I added the coral beauty and see if the "gash" was in the clam. Low and behold it was. I have rambled here alot because I am so happy. The evidence shows that the coral beauty did not cause the damage. He/she may still nip in the future, but he is not guilty yet. Moral of the story, take pics of the tank before changes are made, b/c your memory may fail you, and or you may not notice things and find guilt where it is not due. I have not named any of my livestock, but I think I am going to name the coral beauty..."OJ." Thanks again Frank for all your help and advice. Darrell PS Here is a link of my webpage...www.darrellandbrenda.com. Visit photos at the bottom of the home page. Then "aquarium." The photo img.2011.jpg was taken on 1/26...notice the gap in the clam on the bottom right of the mantle. This was before I added OJ. Last edited by heels92 : 01-30-2008 at 09:21 PM. | Serpent Star | Re: New from SC I need a new protein skimmer. What does anyone think of a Berlin "classic" skimmer. I found one on Ebay and just wanted opinions on the brand. I only have about a $150 to spend on a good one but not perfect. This one is used. Here is the link. Berlin Classic Protein Skimmer - eBay (item 180210379665 end time Jan-31-08 19:58:44 PST). |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: New from SC That is cool you and Frankie met ![]() You might could get a used skimmer for $150. If you want new, I suggest saving up and getting a good one. For a hang-on model, get an aquaC Remora pro. I used to have a few and they worked great. For in-sump, there are many good models out there but try to get one with an ASM/EuroReef design if you can.
