Hey guys & girls, I'm a vigin here. Hope the holidays treated u well. I have a question for u guys. Currently Im running a 75 gallon RR w/ 150 watt. 20K's. I have an Octopus 110 skimmer in sump, w/ a filter sock. My question is I have found a mag 12 for very cheap, & was wondering if this pump (used as a return)would be 2 much for my tank..Ur thoughts pls..

Re: Virgin

what kind of flow do you have going to the sump. I expect it would be fine. I dont think its too much.

Re: Virgin

It wouldn't be too much... you could plumb it different ways to match your overflow gph.

Put a valve on the return side of the pump, or, T the return line and put a valve on that to run water through a fuge or something.

Re: Virgin

I would think that a mag 12 would be way too much flow for a single overflow (if that is what you have). Also, the gph of the pump will depend on the head pressure (height from sump to display). You would need to plumb in a "T" or two like Bwlr suggested above. Still you will have a ton of flow in the sump which could attribute to micro bubbles in the display...

Re: Virgin

Doni is right. That could be a LOT of gph unless you have significant head pressure. I think Jack has a good formula to help you calculate that. Drop him a PM

When in doubt... wait it out. This means take it slow and let the tank "develop" and don't rush it. Time is your friend
