Let's see if this works.

Sometimes it is the little things that make all the difference.
Cool looking clown. I don't think I have ever seen one like it. Love the colors.

Re: Hello

I have only seen one or two like that. I would like to get another one because this one is always trying to breed. He may have to start dating the hippo because it's slim pickings with fire clowns

Thanks Witfull, I like to be around OFR's

For example I use a RUGF (reverse undergravel filter) Beyond old school, but it has been working for 37 years. How bad could it be. When people hear "UGF" they go nuts and you hear "nitrate factory" high maintenance, hydrogen sulfide, tank crash etc and they would be correct because they did not research and learn that there are simple ways to use this technology that give a completely different scenario. If you use it the way it comes out of the box with the enclosed instructions, then it will not work well at all.
After many years Ifound a better, low maintenance way to use it.
Paul, I am very interested in this. Would you mind elaborating a little on it? Tangents and rambling are both good things, IMO. And I don't mind spending hours listening (or reading).

I'm glad you got the photo thing figured out. That fire clown is beautiful!

Re: Hello

Framerguy, I love the photo thing. I am going to post all sorts of things.
Well maybe not.
As for the RUGF. I must warn you that I am probably the only one doing this.
I use dolomite which is like crushed coral. You can't use sand. My UG filter has 3 "up lift" tubes so I put elbows on them just above the sand and I brought them all up above the water into a plastic container. I have a picture somewhere. Anyway I did this because I want aprox. equal water to go down each tube. I use a small powerhead that pumps water into the container at 150 gallons an hour. This way each tube gets 50 GPH. There is also a sponge on the intake of the powerhead so the water is filtered before it gets pushed under the gravel.
As I said, it ran for the first 25 years before I inspected under it mainly because I was curious.
For maintenance I rinse the sponge weekly and I also stir up where I can reach a few times a year with a diatom filter. I think this stirring is very important no matter what type of system you have. Of course with a DSB you can't stir the sand.
I mix it up as good as I can. I don't do under the rocks or get too crazy.
In the sea this happens all the time. I put a small plastic funnel looking thing on the outlet of the diatom filter hose to make a powerwasher to blow into the rocks. I want all of those pores clean. Thats another falacy, that live rock needs to be replaced. It just needs some spring cleanup.
Thats it.
Have fun.
Paul

Re: Hello

I found the picture.
That green plastic thing,(Or old hang on filter) is where you can see the three tubes entering from below. The hose on the left is the water entering from a powerhead. That smaller plastic container was removed, it took the air bubbles out of the tubes but it was not needed.
Of course three powerheads could be used but they would have to be run very slow. The slower the better. You are looking for a little more than a trickle. Too much flow and nitrate may go up. Also you will push too much dirt under there.
You can see the sponge just below the surface to make maintenance easy. I barely get my hands wet.

I have the exact same kind of chiller!

I find this fascinating for some reason. There would be no way to be able to use sand in this system? .. you know, for gobies, jawfish and the like?
Maybe layer the UGF, dolomite, screen, sand? I'm betting the answer is no but it's worth asking.
