Happy Holiday to all

I just bought a BioCube 29 gal today for my Christmas Present to myself. Looking forward to starting up a nice reef. Anything I need to worry about with the BioCube set up? What should I start with, live rocks or fish?

Re: Happy Holiday to all

Dont start with fish, The tank needs to cycle and that may take 4-6 weeks. Do not add any fish until after this period. You can add rock. Here is some reading on cycling a tank...

By the way welcome to RS.

Welcome to RS, Les!

Take it slow. This hobby is an outstanding way to learn patience.

Re: Happy Holiday to all

What is a good book to get for a greenie such as me. Years ago I did OK with fresh water, never tried the reef. Should I soley rely on the advise of LFS or more from the book and you all? Can't wait to get this up an running. I have been waiting for many years for this day, So I guess a few more weeks won't kill me.

Re: Happy Holiday to all

Books and us for now,,, Ask us questions and you can compare the information that the lfs gives you with our info... 9 out of 10 times your lfs will tell you your tank is ready for livestock when it is not... Give you misleading info because they just want your $. Some LFS are pretty decent and care about the livestock.. But you need to test them first.

Welcome to RS!
I would not trust the LFS until you can determine for yourself if they know what they are doing. Don't trust clean tanks etc. They have large systems with frequent maintenance so they can get away with things we cannot.
Remember the best information is going to come from somebody not trying to sell you something.
