| Tunicate | abcsnana Hi everyone - I'm a member of the Wichita Kansas clubs. I currently have a 65 reef with softies and LPS. I am getting ready to order a 120 and planning the install. I will set it up after between Christmas and New Year. Having moved my own tank and my daughter's 55 I have a bit of an idea how to make a tank transfer, but this time I want to set up a good support system for the LR before I actually move it all over. I want to have good circulation under the stuff - I'm really sick of the hair algae. Finding out that circulation is really a good thing to keep it out of my tank so I am planning to put a pyramid of PVC underneath the LR and use that to also put in some circulation. If anyone has some good pointers on this, please share. |

| Plate Coral | Re: abcsnana Well first off Welcome, So in a sense are you planning to do like an under the gravel type system? If circulation is a problem. What are you using for flow? Maybe the flow isnt the root of the hair algae. If you use sand and have this PVC pyramid under it i dont see that fixing the problem. and i dont see it being to attractive. Some easier solutions would be to go bare bottom, which i dont like the look of but it may work for you. Or some sand and better flow through filters/power heads seems easier to me. |

| Padawan | Re: abcsnana welcome to RS! what are you trying to do with the PVC? have it pyramid along the length of your tank and have your live rock structure around it to hide it? i think if you just had a really good power head aimed to the back of the tank from the side and then on the other side have it aiming toward the front, you would get really good water flow through out your tank with out all the hassle of the PVC... but im just thinking aloud!!!

| Watch this Ma! | Re: abcsnana Welcome to RS! ![]() I agree with others that adding more flow through the use of powerheads would probably elminate the algae. Also, what skimmer have you been using? What are your nitrate and phosphate readings? The algae wouldn't exist if there wasn't any nutrients in the tank to feed it.
