a beginner!

Hi, everyone!

My name is Barb, and I've just joined because I'm beginning research on establishing a reef tank. I've had freshwater tanks in the past, but as I get older I want something beautiful that I've created myself to look at every day.

I've decided on a 50-55 gal regular rectangular tank. I know that I'd like some soft corals, crustaceans, a few colorful and hopefully compatible fish, a clam possibly, sea cucumber.... I don't know what-all just yet.

I've been doing a fair bit of reading/research but thought it would be fun and helpful to talk with real people about the whole subject.

I'm looking forward to getting to know y'all!

Hi Barb! Welcome to RS. put the check book away and hang out for a while, what you can learn here will pay for three tanks in savings (and youll probably end up with three anyway lol) Feel free to ask anything, enjoy the party. Steve

Re: a beginner!

Thank you for the welcomes... I see there's a pretty random group of "people" here . In my opinion random people are the best so I think I've come to the right place.

I have to admit I've been reading here for hours and it's now just about 1am and my head is SPINNING, and I'm really anxious to actually get started building this tank. I wonder how long I can make myself wait before I start going broke??

I can help there.....send me all your money!
As everyone has said read read read. But while you are reading don't go buy that 50-55 gallon tank. First thing most people buy is the tank and then they research. (I did). So first advice, get a tank that is at least 18 inches front to back. A typical 75 gallon at least and get a reef ready one makes for fewer headaches.
