hello from singapore

hello and good day to everyone!

as the thread title says, i'm from singapore (no, it's in asia but NOT part of china like may believe it to be).

just invested in a rather large marine system which i intend to eventually build into a reef system. 6.5ft x 3ft x 2.5ft, sitting in my dining room so i can view it while enjoying my dinner

i'm fairly new to the hobby (my dad had a fish-only setup years back when i was a kid, but it wasnt all too successful). i know basic stuff like how to identify most (common) fish species, some bit about technology that can aid a reef system and perhaps a little bit about water quality etc. but that is seriously all tip-of-the-iceberg stuff... loads to learn still that i hope i will be able to learn together with the rest of this community

cheers to all and hope to share tips, advice and pointers as we go along

Re: hello from singapore

Welcome to RS.....I see that Sasquatch is also in this forum and he will probably beat me to the post in welcoming you, but he is probably going to ask for pictures as you go....I would NEVER do that however, the best thing to do would be to begin in the chronicles as you begin to build your reef. Oh and don't forget about the pictures too.

Re: hello from singapore

woot! you guys reply fast!

my camera's with my girlfriend at the moment and the tank's still a bit bare (it's barely a month old and i dont want to rush in too much livestock). will get in some picts the moment i can. gotta bear with the bare-ness

heh chilli crab aint the only thing great to eat here, sasquatch. i personally prefer the black pepper and butter recipe to chilli crab. but it's more sinful as well. meh, what's life without good food aye?

currently what i have in my young tank:
1. pacific sailfin tang (was my starter fish introduced just days after the water n LR went in, a bit early but he's doing great, eating like a glut)
2. naso tang (big guy, about 9 inches, was taking a risk on this one, but he was too beautiful to resist)
3. lubbock wrasse
4. twinspot goby (to clean up the diatom mess on my substrate, i need to get another to keep him company, i hear they do better that way)
5. 2x flame angel (1 big 1 small, hopefully they can "get together")
6. 3x yellow tang (still fighting... hope they cut it out soon)

i have 3 bunches of red bamboo algae (dunno if that's the "official" name) to feed my tangs and a clump of turtle weed to add some green.

heh, i know i'm already stocking it too fast. gonna slow down a bit and let things settle before i add anything else. anyone have a good suggestion on what BLUE fish to add next??

People come into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: hello from singapore

Welcome to RS. I am in the process of getting a tank almost the size of yours. I already have tangs, so I dont want a Blue tang. Im getting a baby Blue Whale. You could probably get an adult Blue Whale. LOL
Again welcome to the Sanctuary.-Michael
