New to the hood...

Hi I just stumbled upon ur site while looking for a DIY Kalk reactor. I looked around liked what I saw and figured I'd see about joining your community. I've been getting wet for around 15 yrs. I started w/ salt about 4 yrs ago. So I know what I'm doing and always willing to learn. I just started a Tank Design and Maintenance business in Omaha, NE. I have a few clients hoping to get a lot more soon.

I guess my set up is important, I have a 125 gallon reef w/ a 55 gallon sump/refugium. 3- 175 watt 6500 metal hi and 4- 65 watt actinic bulbs. The refugium is on a 24 hr cycle all of which either sits in or on a stand/hood I built. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done. I just started playing w/ SPS so thats why I need the reactor. My levels are as follows

Ammo: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate:0 ppm
Phos: 0 ppm
Calcium: 480 ppm
Salinity: 1.025
Temp: 77.9 - 80.5
ph: 8.4
ph: 8.0 lights off (thank u refug)

Anyway thats all for now.

Re: New to the hood...

Time for pics...... The set up would have been real beautiful if the wife hadn't killed everything in the tank in April. Quick story....3 day's after I left the house to deliver a load, wife calls tells me my tank is making noise so I unplugged the pump. Fix it when u get home this weekend. Not how can we work to fix this, but u do it when u get back. Fine then end up in Florida truck breaks down, don't get home for 2 weeks. Would not have been a bit deal but someone forgot to place heater in display tank until 24 hrs before I got home. temp in tank when I got home was 45 degrees. So every coral and invert in the tank died......except for a colony of button polyps on 1 rock and 2 zoanthids on a branch. I let her know once a week she cost me 4000 dollars in live stock.

These pics are from the last 2 weeks after months of rehab and perfect water test.Any way the pics.... warning long. All the actinic pics were taken 10 minutes after the lights came on this morning.

If anyone has any questions about the inhabitants please feel free to ask. There are 2 different Mandarins in the pictures though. I'm trying to catch them together. Maybe one of these days.

Re: New to the hood...

sweet tank, welcome to the party. so did you get a DIY kalk reactor? i am using this one, it hooks straight up to my RO/DI unit. add about 1/2 jug Mrs. Wages and its good to go, no adding and mixing every few days. works great. 4" DIY Kalk Reactor (Probuilder) mine is the same as this one but only 30" high.
