| Tunicate | Hi from WA State! Hi! I've had fresh water aquariums off and on for years and thought it's time to start a salt water. I told a friend that I wanted to start one next year and she popped up with a 16 gal glass bow front for my birthday! So yea... I'm still in the planning and adding live rock phase. I got a 28 watt 50/50 compact flourescent and hope it's enough. I found I'm kind of limited on lighting for the nano. I also found out that the nano skimmer is a waste of time and money the hard way. I've been trying to stay away from the sump situation yet trying to keep the tank it's self looking simple and am finding it may be one or the other (guess I can always drill a hole in the wall and use the closet area for a refugeum if I have to). Any advice is welcome. I'm on a limited budget right now so I'm picking up pieces as paydays come along. Also, what do you do when the power goes down? That's been a big concern for me, as the weather people are saying this is going to be a bad winter. Thanks for having me! Gypsy |

| Manta Ray | Re: Hi from WA State! Welcome to RS!! Probably the easiest thing to do for a power outage is invest in a battery powered air pump that kicks on when the power goes off, it's inexpensive insurance. If you live in a rural area (like me), a small generator (like I have) is a lifesaver but they're noisy. Welcome again!

| Bryozoan | Re: Hi from WA State! Welcome to the site. I just joined a few days ago myself, and am also gearing up for an exciting venture in nano-reefing (I've got a 24-gallon myself). I'm in Portland, OR, btw, so not extremely close but not too far away, either. Good luck with your system! |
