Newbie (Again)

Hi Everybody! First off, thank you for providing such a welcoming environment; it’s more conducive for people like me to post. My name is Jim, and I’m in north Florida. I’m a newbie of sorts, because the last SW tanks I kept were about 20 years ago; geez- the technology has changed so much! When I broke my tanks down years ago, I had a couple of larger FO (about 70G?) tanks and four, thriving, 10G reef tanks. Crushed coral substrate, undergravel filters with power heads, and outside filters to polish; not exactly the formula for success, but they flourished for some reason. Back then small reef tanks were considered risky I guess, but I didn’t know any better. I had so much fun with it though… take away the fear of failure, and you can really enjoy your hobby (or obsession).

Anyway, the bug bit again. I set up a simple, freshwater Eclipse a couple months ago and went to my LFS to get a couple fish; and, then I caught the scent of SW. That’s all it took. I left with a BioCube 8G that day and am off and running. I have been scouring this forum and have been enthralled with amount of information here. Thank you so much! Now that my LR and sand are arriving today, however, I seem to’ve forgotten everything. Hence another post is coming below. Once again, thanks for being so friendly, and forgive my longwinded-ness.
Jim

Welcome aboard Jim! Happy to have along for the ride. You can take the man out of reef, but you can't take the reef out of the man. Once a reefer, always a reefer! The sickness never goes away, sometimes it just goes into remission. Welcome back to the addiction!

Welcome! I would like to THINK that a LOT has changed in SW since your last endeavor and I think it's much easier and more productive than it used to be.

Welcome and enjoy your venture here with RS. Other than me, it's a very talented and friendly group. I'm better as a "Door Man" than technical adviser but I am proud to welcome you on in.

When in doubt... wait it out. This means take it slow and let the tank "develop" and don't rush it. Time is your friend

O goodie another old time reefer. Now I have company. Jim, you are going to absolutely love the technological advances. Keeping a nice reef is so easy compared to the way it used to be. This is a great place to learn and share your experiance.

Welcome (back) aboard!
Let the reefing begin.

And Allen, if you're going to be a doorman make sure to shut it behind you.
Were you born in a reef or something? lol

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Welcome to RS! Glad to have you join us.
One thing to be warned about though. We love pics. Even of empty tanks.

(Sorry Sas we have a new Floridian to balance out the new Canadian member.)
