| Tunicate | I have just started my saltwater aquarium about 2 months ago. It has done well so far. I recently bought an Rock Beauty(it is very nice in color). The pet store forgot to tell me that she or he was going to get so large, she would eat all day and every live plant that I have if I allowed her to. Would anyone like to trade for some live rock or polyps. I have 50/50 lighting, so anything that would adapt! Thanks alot for any help or comments! Deanna |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Rock Beauty-Hello Welcome to RS. All angels are a risk since they eat many things in our reef. I am about to move a flameback angel since he was found munching on my corals. Always do your own research and don't depend on the LFS. Many are just out to make a buck without regard to the animals or their keepers. Some are good like the one I spend most of my money at, but you have to go informed so you can tell when they are trying to help or trying to just make a sale.

| Reef Shark ![]() | Re: Rock Beauty-Hello How big is your tank? That Holacanthus tricolor is gonna get pretty big... Sadly, they don't have a great survival record, BUT, they CAN be kept...here's more info on them: RockBeautyA You mention that the LFS failed to give you information about them...sorry, while I'd LOVE to see better info from the LFS employees, it's been pretty rare over the years, and only in the better reef-specialty shops do you generally find anyone who really knows much about marine animals...that puts the responsibility on you to research all your fish purchases BEFORE you buy...that way, you know whether you have the right size and kind of tank, whether you can offer the right foods, etc... Scott Michael's Marine Fishes is a great paperback book that I always kept with me when fish shopping. It contains lots of great info on most of the more common species, and makes a pretty good guide to your purchases.

| Golden Moray | Re: Rock Beauty-Hello I think that you've made a wise decision on selling the Rock Beauty. Unfortunately, as Boomer mentioned, they do have a rather poor survival rate in captivity. Another fish best left in the wild. Research is the key! Fortunately, with the internet, it is now possible for hobbiests to learn before they buy. There are many creatures that do well and live long and happy lives in our tanks with proper care. There are also many which should never be collected for the aquarium trade. Only by passing on the knowledge that we gain can we hope to help others from making costly mistakes. You have come to the right place here at RS. The best advice that I can give you is to take your time, do the research, and if you don't understand or aren't sure, ask questions. Good luck and welcome to RS. |

| Golden Moray | Re: Rock Beauty-Hello Deanna, most low to moderate light requiring corals will do fine. Softies, mushrooms, and zoas. Keep in mind though that these types of corals do put a lot of toxins in the water so you should plan on frequent water changes and running carbon all the time. There are also some LPS that do well but remember, GO SLOWLY! |
