Skimmer I use on my SPS tank:

Diy job,.. gutted a old in sump skimmer, put some plumbing on it, and a good pump.

Yo, Whiskey. The overall outside height of the canopy should i take into consideration that there will be 1.5" lip modeling to cover the trim of the tank? 16.5" canopy then? or will i be cool with a 15" height

I say do what you need to so the bulbs are 9" off the water. Your tank is not that deep, and you are going for a mixed reef.

Ok. i will talk with the dude. He keeps saltwater tanks so i will explain to him what i want done and hopefully he can understand my jibber and then put it into his woodworking skills
