| Tunicate | Hey. Just got my first mini reef. It goin great so far. A couple damsels, twin eel like gobies, mating tomato clownfishes, some sort of atlantic anemone (not compatible with clownfish), coral banded shrimp, humpback shrimp, two little green crabs originally and then today I found tiny crab living beneath my mushroom collection, three colonies of star polyps, a couple of trees (soft coral), a sand sifting starfish. All kinds of good things. 100 pounds of live rock, 55 gallon setup, 400 watts of PC, hang on refugium filled with grape caulerpa, a backpack skimmer. That about sums it up. Tank had been up and running for two years prior to my purchase of the entire setup. Only problem so far is the nitrates are too high. The corals are doing fine though as I believe they had grown accustomed to it over the two years with the previous owner. I am being patient while the rock kicks back into gear. Plus many a water change of course. |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Pedro's Mini Reef 55 Gallon Welcome to RS and congrats on your reef! ![]() Water changes, aggressive skimming, and a fine aragonite sand bed of 3" will reduce the nitrAtes.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Pedro's Mini Reef 55 Gallon Welcome to RS! Sounds like you are off to a great start. Keep up with the water changes and get the nitrates down as soon as possible. Be sure to use ro/di water with a good salt and test the new water before adding to the tank. Sorry had to add that as I was once unknowingly adding nitrates to my tank when I had a problem with my ro filter. Best of luck and post pics when you can.
