hello - any ideas?

Hi. I'm new to the hobby so I need some help. I have a 54 gal. corner tank that has been up and running for about 9 mos. Just FOWLR with a few inverts right now, but am interested in a reef tank. I'm looking to upgrade my lighting to accomodate corals and an anemone. Unfortunately, the dimensions of my tank make finding a small fixture with everything I want quite difficult. (Although I am also unsure exactly what I want.) Any suggestions?

a pendant or a retro into a taller canopy would work well.

Re: hello - any ideas?

Its a good idea to research all corals and what there lighting needs are and then decide on corals you may want to keep and get the right lights from there... list all corals you like and we can help from there..

Re: hello - any ideas?

I have an Ocellaris clownfish and would like to get an anemone for it. I do want to stay away from ones that can be problems or that would get too large. I know that some of them require a lot of light. As for corals, I'm thinking of some mushrooms, Xenia, Pagoda, Pocillopora, and maybe eventually some Acropora. I don't want anything too aggressive, though. I know that's quite a variety, but I hope to have areas in my tank with varying degrees of light. Thanks.

Re: hello - any ideas?

Acropora and anemone require lots of light so I would look into MH pendants..With varying degree of light the softer or less needy corals can go lower in the tank and the more needy corals go towards the top of tank.

There is so many kinds of light out there, But if you are already thinking of high light corals than research and gets the best light you can afford..
