Hello From an Aspiring Reef Keeper (aquapod 24 incoming!)

Hello everyone.

I wanted to drop in and say hi before I even put a drop of water in my tank for the first time. I'm setting up an Aquapod 24 with metal halide lights, and I'm browsing your forums thinking ahead to the heat problems I'm anticipating.

My plan is to replace the glass lid of my tank with egg crate and use some computer case fans to get some airflow across the water - that seems to have worked well for some of you.

Right now I'm working through a shopping list of things I need before I fill the tank - I want to get everything in place and run it a few days to see what my temps are like before adding liverock.

I'm already planning on a Bak Pak 2R to get some protein skimming going on; I'm trying to decide on whether to run the stock pump, or change it for a MJ. I'm curious to hear what type and how many power heads others are using.

If anyone wants to share their experience on modding Aquapods, I'd love to hear from you.

These forums look like an amazing resource - thank you to everyone who is sharing their experiences and knowledge!

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

I had problems with the back pack. I put the MJ on with the venturi. I also put an air stone in. After that it does take a little tuning but it worked fantastic. Good luck
