| Tubeworm | I have two clumps of this algae growing in my 7 gallon nano. I'm hoping someone can tell me what it is. I have never seen one quite like this. As the algae matures, the "leaves" turn a blue-white irridescent (kinda pretty). Hermits, snails, and the peppermint shrimp do not eat it. Thanks for your help, I'm new to this. Here's a pic: ![]() |

| Reef Lobster | Re: Friend or Foe? Looks kind of like a bleached or faded clump of Rhodophyta to me.

| Tridacna maxima | Re: Friend or Foe? It looks like Halymenia duchassaignii or Fauchea. I have Fauchea in my tank but your "leaves" look a bit more jagged than mine, but maybe too jagged for Halymenia. It is definitely in the red Rhodophyte family. It is a good algae.

| Cabbage Leather | Re: Friend or Foe? I have something that looks like this! It came on a zoanthid frag I got free from Blue Zoo. It was pretty good sized, but since then my crabs have trimmed it down to nubs... Not sure if it's the same thing.

| Neon dottyback | Re: Friend or Foe? going to have to disagree with the species there. Dictyota dichotoma is a strictly smooth leafed species of dictyota. The picture shoes a specimen with ruffled edges. It is more likely Dictyota mertensii, or D. crenulata, or D. delicatula, etc... no way of being sure unless you get it under a microscope. |
