Coraline shedding????

We recently aquirred our new tank that had been going for over 5 years. The tank had no fish with just a few snails and hermits, but with tons of Coraline algae. It took the algae a couple of days for it to reach its feelers out again like it was when we broke the tank down. Now the algae seems to shedding but the feelers look fine.... Any help please....

Ummmm... I don't think corraline algae has feelers/tentacles/polyps. Are you able to post a photo?

What comes to mind first is micro serpent stars living in the rocks. I don't know why your corraline would be dieing off though... did lights come with the tank?

Re: Coraline shedding????

OK so we went down to the LFS and they told us that what we had in fact was star polyp, an all light pink star polyp. Thats what we thought that was some sort of coral when we first got our tank but the Other LFS in town said it was coraline. So now we have all of this coral that some of its dieing because the rocks were rearranged and some of the coral is up side down in the sand and such. Looks like we are getting new rock and aquascaping it all tomorrow. or any suggestions on how to get rid of star polyp coral????

Why do you want to get rid of it?

Because its on everything... I mean every single piece of Rock in my 60 gallon. Its kinda ugly its just a pale pink color. Its taking up valuable realestate where I have plans for other corals
