Re: brown alge

How long has the tank been running? Tap water will cause that for sure. Only thing you need to add to Ro water is a salt mix.

you can run something like phos-ban or chemi-pure elite to help remove the phosphates already in the tank.

Re: brown alge

bout 2 years it has been a problem all the time but i hasnt been that bad, now its every where. So i should use ro water and add salt to it. But what if i want to add the fresh water because fresh water has evaporated.

Agreed, you dont need to add anything to the RO water if its just top off for the tanks evap rate. But yes salt mix if your changing out water. dont forget that salt doesnt evaporate. Also I add Seachem Prime to all my water just because it offers some small bonuses such as, helps detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, nitrates in the water and gives your fish a little slime coat to help them out. Hope that helps, and limit your time you have your big lights going through the day to 8-9 hours because that can be a big deal when it comes to nuisance algae

Last thing is a big water change can always help out, Clean up crew of emerald crabs, sally lightfoot crabs, sandshifting starfish, hermit crabs, and urchins just love the brown algae that shows up in my tank. I have alot of brown algae growth in my tank because i run my T5 HO fluorescents for 14 hours in the day. A lot of folks say that inverts dont like brown algae and i have found that to be false from my observations.

GL with the algae problem and i hope i atleast helped a little
