Green Coraline algae?

Is there such a thing as green coraline algae? I have plenty of the purple kind growing but noticed today that I have a few patches of a brilliant greenish blue algae on my rocks. It is not spreading rapidly at all and my nitrates are at 2.5, which makes me believe it is not blue green algae.

Re: Green Coraline algae?

There are MANY colors/variations of coralline algae. It usually varies by depth and light demand... I've had/seen some beautiful orange coralline but it died shortly after entering my tank only to be quickly replaced with Pink.

Keep an eye on what you're seeing... it could be the beginning of a nuisance algae outbreak.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Green Coraline algae?

I have green in my tank but it's more of an olive green. I have some crazy blood red color too. I had some of that orange but mine went away too. The bright green I have is down below the sand and I don't think mine is coralline.

Below the sand probably isn't coralline.

Re: Green Coraline algae?

On some of the live rock i got at my LFS was pink coraline, that has remained for over a month since i got it. Then on areas of the rock white started to form as if it was a white coraline algae? There was no coraline there in the first place so could some grow that fast then die right after that quickly in just a few hours, maybe a day?
