| Tubeworm | red slime issues I have red slime all over my sand. The water quality is fine and the levels are where they should be. I added plants to try to absorb the nutrients so that it doesn't grow but it does not seem to be affected by it. I syphoned it all up a few days ago and its back again in full bloom. How can I get rid of it this problem and keep my sand as white as the day i bought it? |

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: red slime issues The sand will change over time but the "Red Slime" could be from many different sources. It could be excess nutrients, low flow, poor source water or any number of items. I'd start with large water changes from RO/DI water Increase flow Manual removal OFTEN before the water changes Cut back on feeding Good luck ![]()
__________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!! | recovering overfeeder ![]() | Re: red slime issues OOOOhhhhhh maaaan, been there multiple times there is a thread I believe under this forum of mine that says red slime algae. has lots of good advice. But Big AL always has great tips, Mine was from overfeeding (chronic overfeeder here) http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/...air-green.html or this one red slime algae question (told you I had issues : :Good luck. I added phosban and just added Chaeto, and haven't seen it since, but I also had to remove all of my live rock and scrub it. I never had it on the sand. We'll see where I am in a month or 2, hopefully in a bigger tank!!!
