What is this stuff?

I've just acquired a 29 gallon reef tank (already established) and have a major abundance of an algae I cannot identify. I've enclosed a picture below. It ranges from a pale purple (nearly white) to a deep purple. Can anyone assist me in identifying this algae and let me know whether it is benign or a pest I need to deal with? The original owner of the tank was as clueless as I was as to what this is:

Honestly I've never seen "Purple" algae before. I'll be tagging along to see if anyone else can help.

I have seen it take over tanks before, I am not sure what it is but notheing eats it. Keep it isolated from your rock or it will take over.

its a macro algae but i cant find the scientific name anywhere...ill keep looking

It looks a lot like the red algae ochtodes in Calfo's Reef Invertebrates.
