how long before green hair says goodbye

I have had an outbreak of green hair alge and my nitrates were high, did two large water changes and now it is at a 0 level. how long before the algea dies off and any thing to watch in water parameters as it does??
If it has air bubbles in the algea it is good as it is a sign it is dying off??

It's probably safe to say that there aren't actually "zero nitrates" in your tank even though you test is reading 0. What brand test are you using? The trates may be locked in your algae.

I was using an API nitrate test that showed 0 ppm every time I tested. Then I got a Salifert kit and the low-end test showed me that I did in fact have some in there.
