Question What the.....

Well, I was checking out my tank after feeding the fish frozen myasis shrimp and I went into the tank with some forecepts to get what I thought was a piece of left over food. and it sucked back into the rock, like a tube worm does.

I didn't put anything in there, but it is attached to a frag of soft button polyps and the frag has been in there for about 2 months. I never saw this thing before, but I repositioned the frag on friday. It Kinda looks like a featherduster.

I don't have my camera and I am not sure that it will take a picture that well. I will bring my camera tomorrow and see.

But everytime I go near it, it sucks back in. Does any type of algae do that?? Or could it be a type of worm?? Ya I know you need pictures.

I will get the pics tomorrow.

Re: What the.....

We had alot of them in our old 46 and the CBB would always try and snatch them but, they were pretty fast to shoot back into the hole.

Re: What the.....

Thank for the input, I was going to wait and see if it grew. But I was worried also that it was some algae like atipsia, so something. I'm new at this and paranoid.

Re: What the.....

OK I can't get a picture of the thing, it is too small and clear. I guess I will have to let it grow and see.

Re: What the.....

Kinda looks like the 2nd one, might be wishful thinking though. the feather things look like they have bands on them, and it looks clearish. very little creature, but definately sucks back to where it came from

Oh yes indeed! They are VERY prolific indeed and have a nasty sting waiting for other corals.

Check out this link and see if what you have look like these..

Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: What the.....

Hmmmm you see all of my polyp corals are closed, I wonder if that is why, do they only go next to the corals??

I don't know if that is what it is, it is very small, but dips back into the rock when I come near it. But that would make sense of why they are all closed.

How do I kill it?? 12.5 gal tank, multiple snails, multiple hermits, emerald crab, 1 o clown and 1 wheeler watchman gobie.

My rocks are going to be removed today and scrubbed, bad bad cyano and hair algae. Chaeto coming (thank you woodstock) probably by wed.

parameters are good, phosban in biowheel pump.

Re: What the.....

doesn't really look like the picts. though, again small but growing. little fan things have lines, kinda looks like a feather duster, but these just appeared on their own. tank has been up and running since mar.
