Re: HELP! Algae killing zoos

For a target feeding that sounds pretty good. Are all the polyps attached by colored tissue? They can share food a little bit that way. But if there is a break in the color and white skeleton shows thru, those polyps are isolated.
You will have to judge a little bit yourself by watching your sun for signs of decline.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: HELP! Algae killing zoos

i go through 2 cubes and every major polyp gets 2 mouthfuls per feeding. There are alot of little ones on the sides of the main poly that are growing exponentially. Ill do some rinsing tonight and add the phosban pad.

i put the phosban pad in the back chamber. I cut it to 2'' x 15''so it goes form top to bottom and side to side.

Re: HELP! Algae killing zoos

Cyano is a pain in the .... the steps you are taking sound great, but I would also check the water source - I saw you are using distilled, which should be great - but if the filters are old, then it's not doing you any good... You can also try cutting back on the lights for a few days. I cut mine back for a few days then slowly added time back. I would not add any more cuc's - that will add to the bioload, but not take care of the cyano. Keep us posted...

Re: HELP! Algae killing zoos

I am turkeybastering them and the algae is comming off. a few of my GSP polyps opened today aswell. Could the amount of luight there getting be a problem? The GSP are about 5 inches from the halide some with one set of zoos. I think i will try cutting the lights too. Now they are on from 830 to 6 so maybe ill go from noon to 6 and see if thats better. I am using a Sun pod so i dont have any pc lighting. Its just the blue and white led's before the halide comes on.

My LFS also recommended an algae solution that is safe for reefs. Here is a link to it. What do you think?

Re: HELP! Algae killing zoos

I know there are a lot of people on here who say not to use addatives for things like fighting algae. I think that if I can do it without additives so can you. I am still learning. I would let the phosphate pad work for about 48 hours and see how it helps. Mine did wonders. And now I am running a phosphate reactor.

I think GSP might like a little less light than what you are giving it. You can move it to a little less light area and see how it reacts to that. Mine are under T5's and they are almost on the bottom of the tank and they are always open. Good luck.
