bubble

so im sure this has been asked before but I have a huge piece of coral and its rock base, which is starting to grow little beds of green bubble algae. What would be the best recommened method of removal. Some info says leave them and they will go away on there own, and some say pluck them off without poping them.

Im sure i have some nitrate and phosphate issues going on right now as i have yet to get my sump setup. Come june this WILL be done lol.

Any advice would be great. The tank is about 10 months old and i had a 3 day stretch with cyano and algae bloom with initial setup. no hair algae or anything of the sorts. just this green bubble algae and coraline of course.

Thanks for all the help guys and gals

Re: bubble

Scott had some on a rock so I took the rock out, covered the bubbles with super glue gel and razored them off. Then I took a toothbrush and scrubbed the be-jeebers out of it and lots of rinsing with ro/di.

Re: bubble

I'm still fighting bubble algae, but I'm making progress. If you're ok with putting crabs in, emerald crabs will usually eat it. Some will and some won't...I have 4 in my 75 and they're slowly taking care of the small bubbles. Super glue gel can be applied over the bubbles, allowed to dry for a short period, and then peeled off. Another option is if you can take the rocks out, pick them off and swish the rocks around in a bucket of water-change water, then put the back into the tank. Or pick them off while syphoning to catch the spores. It's a PAIN...good luck.

Re: bubble

One thing I have never understood.
How do the emerald crabs eat the algae without popping the bubbles.

Super Glue method for me. Even if it is a structural rock I can do the superglue thing under water it just takes longer to harden.

Re: bubble

The syphon method has been working for me. The superglue also works but with the levels I have I would need to buy stock in a superglue company! I added emeralds and they have helped keeping the small bubbles gone.

I always wondered the same thing. They probably do, but the spores are only harmful if the bubble is in it's sexual stage, or at least that's what I've been told.

Re: bubble

Now Lynn, stop trying to make sense out of life.
Of course they're magical emerald crabs. duh.

Loce you!

(I don't understand this either, but maybe they eat them when they are small enough the spores haven't developed yet?)

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
