| Tunicate | I have a 90 gallon tank with all the parameters in order. nitras/amonia zero, phosphates zero, calcium above 400. my question is... all my rocsk have some patches of pinks and purples, the coraline algae, but some also are colored green almost floursent green, some a have red tint and some have darker red/purples tints, after few dyas of putting abase rock or live rock in there i see color starting to grow. my qestion is what is this color from? is it normal. none of it seems to be hair algae or slime algae, however every few dyas i get a few quarter sized red spots on the sand near the edge of the rocks.. if needed i can upload pictures. im just worried always wondering...is that good algae, or is that bad. i have treid to scrub a few of the rocks with a tooth brush and the algae doesnt come off like a slime or hair alage would. so what is all the color from? ps color is only where rocks are exposed to light. heres some pics..thanks alot guys... these are the colors im talking about. I mean i like the coloration but is it healthy? [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]I know this is the good purple coraline alage[IMG] [/IMG]thanks so much guys and gals... ![]() Last edited by innercirclepro : 03-18-2008 at 12:41 AM. | Serpent Star | Re: Rainbow of algae? I think the answer is coraline algae as well...at least I hope it is as I am having the same thing start growing in my tanks on rocks. Any confirmation by anyone who knows would be appreciated here as well. Thanks. Darrell

| Angel Girl's Daddy ![]() | Re: Rainbow of algae? That last picture of the rock looks to have some Cyano growing on it. The rest is purple coralline. Some of it is flaking also. That is nice. I would take a turkey baster and see if you can blow off that dark purple stuff. If you can it's cyano. How is the flow in your tank?

| Manta Ray | Re: Rainbow of algae? take out most of your fish. too many for a 3 month old tank. what exactly do have in there fish wise? the cyano and other algaes are what is keeping your levels in check. looks like you have some filamentous algaes in the mix also. if you dont remove some fish, you will have never ending battles with algae and bacterial blooms. give this a read, i think you might see why i say that. Newbies, a little something on cycling/breaking in a new reef tank. also what does your clean up crew consist of?
