Re: Good or bad Algae!

Might be immature bryopsis.
  • Do NOT try to remove the tufts of algae in the water. Doing so will only spread the spores. Remove the rock from the water and scrub in bucket of salt water. Be sure to rinse it well.
  • Make sure you're using ro/di filtered water for all water changes and fresh water top offs.
  • Add some phosphate media(phosban/rowaphos) to help remove po4.
  • Raise your magnesium levels to 1500 ppm.

Re: Good or bad Algae!

DO not touch it......

do not remove it...

remove the rock and boil it....

seening your a kinda new im gonna assume that this is a newer tank...

you will save your self thousands if you boil that rock..

Im kinda the expert on how to lose the battle to that stuff.

Re: Good or bad Algae!

lettuce nudi eats them too but I find it not that of a succes with it maybe if more than 1 wdded to the tank it will take care of it. I have some in my tank too and starting to spread so it is time to take more drastic actions to it. removing the rock is not an option because corals are encrusted into it already and it is one of the biggest rock in the tank(about 12x8x5). with some research it seems that lettuce nudi and sea hare are the one's suggested but I tried seahare to no avail so nudis is my next move. maybe 4-5 of them.

Re: Good or bad Algae!

if anything..... turn all the flow off.... let the water come to a complete stand still... then with a water change.. start your siphone and slowly move your hand with your suction tube to the algae... cap it with your finger let ther water stop completly again, then take your figer off and grap it pull and let the water around your hand get sucked up....
you will no be able to starve the aglae you will not be algea to out light it. (or underlight it)

it suxs man... best of luck

Re: Good or bad Algae!

I think its Derbesia, is related to both bryopsis and hair algae or of the same group, all I can say is apply the usual measures for control and be happy! at least it dosent look like HA, lol
