Hello.

I live in the south chicago suburbs, so not too far from you. I'm looking to upgrade my lighting, so I'm wondering if you're selling your lights too, and if so, what kind of lights do you have. thanks

No, I am not selling any equipment. Keeping all of the equipment for setting up a freshwater biotope. Sorry.

Re: Getting out of saltwater hobby.

You would have MUCH better luck posting this stuff on a local club forum. RS'ers are from all over the country,... or world for that matter. Especially if you are not willing to ship...

Re: Getting out of saltwater hobby.

I know that the people here are from all aver the world in here. The items I have for sale though would be to costly and or to risky to ship. If ir were spring I would consider shipping the fish and inverts because a much better chance of survival. As for the live rock, it would just be to costly to ship. UPS, DHL,FEDEX, and all the other shipping companies charge by the pound. As I am sure everybody here knows this. With the live rock it would be shipped with water to minimize any die off. It would probably cost the people here more to ship than the actual cost of what I am selling the rock for. And to answer your comment on selling this stuff at local clubs. They charge money (if you are not a member) to post to sell on there webpage.

I would have to disagree I have sent things across the county live & dry goods no issues. How ever you would have to adjust you pricing to make it worth it for those who would like you to ship. As your LFS if they could help you in bagging for shipping.

Yes with the current cost of shipping by the time you add that onto your price it's out of range. At the same time you're also asking a fairly high price compared to what the rest of the country is paying for such items. I offer this ONLY as advice to try and help... generally when selling used stuff it's accepted to ask for 1/2 the store price. Otherwise you're just going to sit on it and have to GIVE it away or lose it all. Even at 1/2 price you're still going to be at or above what people closer to the ocean are currently paying. It's just the law of economics at work.

When I went to sell some Live Rock and Base Rock I couldn't do it locally unless I dropped the price to where it was a "value" to someone here. I was out of the market on the NET because our pricing is IDENTICAL To what you have mentioned ($12.99lb) due to shipping and fair market margins.

Honestly you'd be better off dropping the price and getting out while the getting's good. Just friendly advice

Re: Getting out of saltwater hobby.

BigAl I am asking a little less than half of what I paid for everything in my tank. I understand that my price is close to being the same as the people that live close to ocean. Their stores don't have to incorporate shipping cost into their retail cost. I appreciate your advice, But also to my defense I did say somewhat in the begining that I will not ship. I am willing to meet half way depending on the distance. Maybe a couple hours, since gas prices are slowly starting to rise again. I have tried craigslist and no luck so far. Also the prices are not set in stone, I did put OBO in my price list. So please give me a break.

Sorry if my post sounded "attack-like". It wasn't meant that way.
