rotifers

Ok so heres the deal. I have finally gotten my clown fish breeding. I have a nice hatchery set up. And now have about 35 clown larva. I have purchased 2 live rotifer culters. The rotifers have been going for about 3 days now. My question is can you see rotifer with a naked eye? If not how do I know I have enough growing and how do I know that my clown larva are being fed?

Re: rotifers

it depends how good your eyes are! with a very dense culture they appear as dust like,in a not so dense you need a clear container(the seatest swing needle hydrometer works well)make sure its clean and scoop up a sample from the rotifer culture, then hold it up to the light and with a magnifying glass you can see them clearly

as for feeding you need a good density and the water kept slightly green(starved rots have no nutritional value) in the larvae tank ,the larvae should be constantly lunging forward while the lights are on,if they are getting enough their bellies appear silver and viewed from above they should be figure 8 or peanut shaped

i strongly recommend you get hold of a copy of joyce wilkersons book "clownfish" its the breeders bible-good luck
