Dragonet Breeding Behaviour??

Hey, I have had a green mandarin for about a year and a half. About 6 months ago I recieved a spotted mandarin who rapidily grew to the same size as the green.(both about 2.5") They have just recently started acting extra friendly towards each other. They brush up, follow around and seem to almost dance while floating along like they do. Last night I watched the spot float off sideways when she would get in a powerhead flow only to have the green duplicate it. then both would just repeat. Has anyone on here had any experience with this???

Thanks

--I will try to take a short video to post here but I am not even sure how to put up a vid if someone could help with that.

Oh, and one other thing-is it even possible that a green and a spot mandarin breed??

All I can do is give you a and offer some VID help. The easiest is to go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and set up a FREE account there. Then upload your VID to photobucket and then all you have to do is post the IMG code here in your link. The forums will handle the rest for you.

Good luck and Happy Reefing

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

If I am correct the green is the male and the spot is the female. Knowing my luck they could both be males and are just "friendly" lol

well watch them at night with the powerheads off if they start swimming in open water and are ascending to the top and staying there you may have some courtship behavior, but what i think is going on in your case is that it could be a little bit of a territory dispute. I've seen a green mandarin (male) kill and spoted mandarin (female) and vice versa, but you will never know until you give them a good watching.

That is what I would have normally thought but they have been together for quite awhile now and there seemed to be no aggression at all ie when followed it wasnt an agressive move-just a kind of float/hover like they do. I dunno, I could be completely wrong lol Anyway I will keep lookin!!

Re: Dragonet Breeding Behaviour??

Does the spotted one have a dorsal spine? Female spotteds won't. I had two male spotteds together to see what they would do. They followed each other around and take turns mimicking one another. They eventually started biting each other, which does not look nearly as vicious as most fish fights, so I separated them.
If yours is a female, that would be way cool if they're acting like a pair. Doubt they could produce viable offspring though.
